Born April 18, 1970 to Lynda Marie Lovely and Jerome Robert Esmay, Redwood City, CA. Father is an engineer at Stanford, mother is a special education teacher. December 1970 - Parents divorce. Rob moves with his mother to Tacoma, WA to live with the Lovelys, owners of a graphic design company.

June 1977 - Rob begins training as a graphic artist under his grandfather Joseph R. Lovely and works evenings and weekends through high school and college.

June 1988 - Graduates from Bellarmine Preparatory High School in Tacoma, WA.

June 1992 - Graduates from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA. Double major in English (writing) and art (painting). Fr. Gerry Sullivan S.J. is his first real fine art teacher. Upon graduation, F. Gerry advises Rob to move to New York.

June 1992 - Moves to New York City.

July 1992 - Takes an assistant art director position at BrainReserve, the trend forecasting firm of Faith Popcorn.

September 1992 - Begins studying classical drawing at the Art Students' League of New York under Michael Burban.

September 1996 - Enrolls in a Master of Fine Art program at the Graduate School of Figurative Art at the New York Academy of Art. Studies drawing under Randy Melick.

June 1998 - Receives Master of Fine Art degree in classical drawing.

February 1999 - Joins Water Street Atelier. Studies classical drawing and painting under Jacob Collins.

September 1999 - Begins self-publishing FreshArtDaily, a single-panel cartoon.

May 2003 - Jake Morrissey of United Features Syndicate offers to publish Rob's cartoon under the moniker "A Case in Point."

June 2005 - Sells first cartoon submitted to The New Yorker.

October 2006 - Changes "A Case in Point" to "Days of Thunder." Begins occasionally working under the name "Robert Lovely."
